You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
Genesis 50:20
The Silence
1. God doesn’t rescue you immediately.
So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate
robe he was wearing— and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
Genesis 37:23-24
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli,
Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
Matthew 27:46
2. God’s timing feels unfair.
When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave
treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
Genesis 39:19-20
3. Grace is given instead of revenge.
Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.
Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said,
“I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! ... But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great
deliverance.
Genesis 45:3-5
