God Speaks in Community

1. We are made for community.

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis 2:18

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

Luke 6:12

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Revelation 21:2-3

2. God speaks through community.

The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.

Proverbs 12:15

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy … But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

1 Corinthians 14:1, 3

3. Key ways to tune into God’s voice in community:

1.) Build honest relationships.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Acts 2:42

2.) Seek Prayer.

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Ephesians 1:16-17

3.) Engage the prophetic.

Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.
